Horses

I listen before I ask.

I love horses that give me something to figure out: what helps them relax, what gets them excited. When a horse is nervous, I remove everything that excites it, sit quietly, watch its cues and let it come to me when it's ready to work. I never force it.

Every day with the herd

Before and after lessons, I help care for the horses: checking eyes, legs and feet, watching how each one moves and eats, and noticing when something is off. Horses have off days too, and I want to catch them early. Anything health-related goes to our vet.

The horses

The ones who taught me

Faith

“The horse no one else liked. She was the challenge I needed, and she taught me patience.”

Butters

“Butters taught me to let go of my expectations. I ride her to help lead drills for beginners.”

Lady

“All the horses galloped down the field and Lady followed. I felt like I was flying.”

Even horses have off days, and aren't perfect. That's part of learning to ride.
